Let me first start of by explaining the name and purpose of this blog. We live in a country that tends to basis its whole identity and worth based on the options of few. By that I mean the way we dress, the cars we drive, the homes we live in, the music we listen to, and even our definition of success is based on the lives of a small group of “opinion leaders" as they are called. I decided to name this blog "Thoughts of a regular Black man" simply because that is what I am. So, the questions arises next is who is this Regular black man? Well, let me give you a glimse into who I am. I was born in a lower middle class community and was raised by both parents. I attended small public schools from elementary to High school and then I went on to college as many of us did. After my freshman year however I decided to leave college and join the Air Force Reserves so that I would be able to pay my own way through school. Why? You ask. You see I was the oldest of my siblings and the first one of us in the house to leave for college. I was raise to believe that you could have anything you wanted in life if y you work for it. My parents where both hard working individuals and I really felt that if I wanted a college education I should pay my own way. This would make it easier for my parents to save up for my sister who was a few years behind me. My experience in the Air Force along with the strong foundation of pride and respect for myself and others made me look at the world through a different set of lenses that many people haven’t been blessed with. So, the purpose of the Blog is to simply express how I feel about different issues facing black men and women like myself. As readers of this blog I must warn you that my beliefs and ideas may be different from yours. I do ask that you keep an open mind as you read them and try to understand where I am coming from. I believe that everyone’s opinon is valid even if they or not the same as mine. As we begin to share ideas and thoughts I look forward to you reactions as well as your view on any topics that may be brought to the table.
Life as a regular black man isn’t always as simple as we would like it to be, but that is the beauty of it! I do feel that many regular guys don’t really get the respect that they deserve. Why? Well some don’t demand it and other just feel that if they don’t have certain material positions they don’t count in the big scheme of things. In this blog I have elected myself to bring to light issues that we have talked about amongst each other for years. Everything from dating, work issues, relationships, family, and any other subject that comes to my mind is what we will discuss here. Ladies may be you will learn through this platform that there is allot more good men out there than you think. You just have to know what you looking for. Guy’s maybe you will learn more about who you are and decide that you shouldn’t have to settle for anything less than what you want out of life. So on this great day in history I will begin sharing thoughts of a regular black man.
